Have You Ever Come Back from a Holiday Still Exhausted?
You slept, slowed down and came home tired again. Nessa Wei explains why a holiday may not restore what daily life keeps depleting and how to choose between a Healing Session and Soul Alchemy.
Your suitcase is still open on the bedroom floor. There is sand in one of the shoes and a restaurant receipt has fallen between the clothes.
You have been home for two days.
On your phone, you are already looking at dates for the next holiday.
Perhaps you simply love travelling. But perhaps you recognise something else in that moment: the relief of finding another week when you will be allowed to step away.
You had a good holiday. You slept, ate well and spent time outside. There were mornings when you felt more like yourself. Yet the familiar heaviness returned remarkably quickly when you came home.
I would want to look at that.
I would want more for you than a holiday that helps you tolerate your life until the next one.
A holiday can interrupt the demands without changing them
You may value much of the life you returned to. You worked for it. There are people you love, responsibilities you chose and work that matters to you. Feeling exhausted does not automatically mean that the whole life is wrong or that you need to abandon it.
A holiday changes the setting for a while. It may reduce the emails, journeys, decisions and practical demands that fill an ordinary week. But it does not necessarily change your relationship with those demands.
Your Body may be lying beside the sea while your Mind rehearses a conversation waiting for you at home. Somewhere beneath that, there may be a wish you have hardly had time to notice: to make something again, change the way you work or have enough energy to discover what you want.
The afternoon passes. You have been physically resting, but there has still been a great deal going on.
In the Daoist Five Element understanding that informs my work, I consider the relationship between Body, Mind, Soul and Spirit. Physical rest may offer only part of what is needed when these aspects feel out of balance.
That does not make rest unimportant. It gives us a reason to ask more carefully what kind of support you need.
First, take persistent exhaustion seriously
Not every experience of tiredness has a spiritual or energetic explanation.
Persistent fatigue can have physical causes that need medical attention. Intense or worsening distress may also require appropriate mental health support. A Healing Session or Soul Alchemy Session does not replace medical or psychological care.
There may also be practical reasons for the exhaustion: too much work, interrupted sleep, caring responsibilities, financial strain or no meaningful time in which you are not responsible for someone else.
Spiritual work should not ask you to ignore those realities. It can help you pay attention to them and consider what support or change may be possible.
Two ways to begin
I offer two different 90-minute sessions. The useful question is not which one is more advanced. It is which kind of participation your present state can meet.
Healing Session: when you need to receive and rest
If you are deeply depleted, another Soul-searching conversation may be too much. You may not have the energy to analyse the situation, consider several possibilities or decide what needs to change.
A Healing Session is receptive. We begin with a brief conversation about what has been happening and how you have been feeling. You then lie fully clothed on the treatment table and receive the work.
My approach draws on Plant Spirit Medicine and Daoist practices. Depending on the session, I may work with stones, channelled energy, my healing drum, Koshi bells or shamanic rattles. The intention is to support balance across Body, Mind, Soul and Spirit.
You can rest while I work. You do not have to sustain a long conversation, interpret an image or reach a decision. There are no expectations for a particular feeling or emotional release.
At the end, we notice how you feel, what seems different and what may still need care.
Soul Alchemy Session: when you have a question to explore
A Soul Alchemy Session is more participatory. It can suit you when you have enough energy to engage with a particular decision, relationship, repeated pattern or sense of being stuck.
We remain in active dialogue. We talk about what brought you and explore what may be happening beneath the story you already know. The session may include conversation, bodily awareness, meditation or shamanic techniques.
Your responses help shape the work. You can say that something resonates, does not make sense or needs more time. The purpose is not for me to decide on your behalf. It is to help you see the situation more clearly and consider a next step that belongs to your actual life.
Where the sessions are available
Healing Sessions and Soul Alchemy Sessions are both available in person in Horsham, West Sussex and London.
Soul Alchemy Sessions are also available online worldwide.
A Remote Healing Session may be available by request. Please email nessa.wei.uk@gmail.com before booking. I will consider what you are experiencing and confirm whether Remote Healing is likely to be a suitable format for you.
Which session should you choose?
Choose a Healing Session first if you feel so depleted that you want to lie down, receive support and have very little asked of you.
Choose a Soul Alchemy Session if you have enough capacity for conversation and want to understand a particular situation more clearly.
You do not have to prove your commitment by pushing through exhaustion. Beginning with restoration is not avoiding the real question. It may give you more inner resources to meet that question later.
Sometimes a Healing Session is enough for the moment. Sometimes it becomes clear afterwards that there is something you would like to explore through Soul Alchemy.
What would you like to bring home?
None of this is an instruction to resign, move abroad or turn something you enjoyed on holiday into a new profession.
You might love your work and need to change your relationship with it. You might discover that something important has had very little room in your life. We have to look before we can know.
When you remember your holiday, I would be curious about more than whether you managed to relax.
When did you feel most like yourself?
What were you doing? Who were you with? Was there something you wanted to continue when you came home?
Perhaps the suitcase can wait a little longer while you give that some thought.
